I have a white screen and the help pages tell me to press and hold... ...until either the apple logo appears or the battery symbol - let me explain I CAN'T SEE ANY SYMBOLS BECAUSE I HAVE WHITE SCREEN...............................

Hello.

You need to reboot the Ipod. Hold down both the home button and the power button at the same time for about 10 seconds or more until the screen goes black and the apple logo appears.

If this doesn't you may need to restore your ipod.
