Hard disk diagnostic problem

Hello,
my hard rive disk can not found in starting the set up of windows XP, it asked me to check the connection of Hard drive Disk or Run diagnostic. i did everything but it doesn't work

please help me to fixed my problem.

it is HP540 laptop

the hard disk brand is hitachi with 160gb
