Inspiron 6400 flash for about thirty seconds and then switch off

please help
when I power up three lights flash a lock with the figure 9 then a lock with the letter A and a lock with a down arrow,
they flash for about thirty seconds and then switch off,
I would appreciate any advice

Does your num lock key work? What about the others?
