Are you sure that isn't your desktop, without any "jewels" on it. Move your cursor down into the left bottom corner, and wait there. Does anything pop up? Try to right click in the same corner and see if any dialoge/drop down list shows up. It is pssible all of the "jewels" have been removed by previous user, or your desktop contains no apps or files!

it is a laptop
and only has one user ,one owner
and nothing pops up after going to left bottom corner
tried windows logo key ,nothing

yes it worked .if not i would have taken back to store
im not that stupid
about 1 year,new (it is my wife's )
tried auto repair nothing
restore nothing
but got in to safe mode and fixing to do a refresh
hope that works

I hope that you do not think that I think you are an idiot! Please do not! It is tough to troubleshoot and give direction with limited "clues", or indications of normal.
Safe mode was going to be my next step. You are going in the right direction!

i did get it working,and just to let people know what i did,I will try to say it here
going in to safe mode on windows 8 is different then all others
in shut down window, you have to hover over restart and hold down the (shift key) and then tap restart
keep holding down key till window come up
in that window go to troubleshooting,tap on that
go to refresh and tap on that
that will give you on screen instructions
