Gateway laptop screen stays black

I have a gateway laptop and went to shut it down when done using it. It said it needed to update so I clicked that option however the screen just went blank and now it will let me login with my password but then I just get a dark screen and I can hear the fan running but it won't boot. How can I fix this problem

Try this:

1. Take out the battery

2. Plug in the cable

3. Restart the laptop by pressing the start button while holding it for 62 seconds.

4. It should start, then you can put the battery back in.
