Hello,
I had to re-download Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010. Now whenever I save a Word document I winds up saving it as a WordPad document. I have called Microsoft Support and they want to charge me $99 to fix it. I cannot afford that.

Does anyone have any idea how this can be fixed so the program will save like it should?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Perhaps this will work for Office 2010 as it does for Office 2007

go to Tools then Options then click on Save. From there look for "save Word files as" and change that from wordpad to word (docx).

Thank you for your response.

Office 2010 does not have that path (Tools>Options, Etc) But I did find out that If I right clicked a word doc on my desktop and then highlighted Open With and clicked Microsoft Word, for some reason that solved the problem.
Also the File tab has a save as. I must have got a lousy download. Microsoft has good programs, but I am discovering that they are becoming more proprietary than ever before. I cannot even use the help in my Office programs unless I am logged in to a microsoft account AND using internet exxplorer.
