I believe that Dell only has a SATA controller with a 1.5 GBps interface. You need SATA III (6GBps) to see dramatic results with the new SSD. So you get less "bang for the buck" with a new SSD.
I would not advise you to speed $600 plus for any upgrade to a 6 year old computer.

Hi xpcman. Thanks. I guess deep down that's what I'm afraid of. I just needed to hear it from someone else - and with a reason such as the SATA controller not being up to the task. I can see that my Dell's days are numbered ... ! Sad. Thanks again for taking the trouble to reply. Steve.
