Limited connectivity

Here is my story.
I am changing ISP's from ATT Uverse to Comcast Xfinity in case that might be relevant.
Both are up and running and I am connecting via WIFI to either. All devices in my house can connect to either and also access the internet via several browsers except for my Dell desktop running Windows 8.1. When I try to connect to Xfinity on that machine it says connected but no browser can access the internet. Sometimes it says limited connectivity but not always. Uverse wireless connection on this machine works fine. I had some concern about desktop being too far away from xfinity router but I am using a laptop in the same room and it connects to xfintiy fine.
I have tried reinstalling wireless adapter driver, restarting computer, router several times.
I tried one fix from this forum about using the cmd prompt to reset something. It didn't work.

Any other ideas from anyone.
