It could be an issue of loose connection between interface cable and HDD.

The issue may really be related to some connectivity problem. You may need to replace some cables. Other possibility is that your HDD has failed. Anyways, dealing with this kind of problems requires opening the laptop, which is not recommended, if it has some warranty left. I would advise you to contact your reseller.
If you have no warranty left, check your laptop's manual for some instructions and remove the HDD. Connect it to another laptop or PC and check if it is working. If it is, check your laptop cables. If it is not, think about replacing the drive.
