Cannot use Alt +F10.

Hello,
I am trying the Alt + F10 but it still takes me to my logon screen. I'm having a boot error and I can only get so far and then my computer shuts off with a black screen if I try downloading anything or using any disc my computer will shut off I'm at a loss of what to do. Please help.
