Use your original windows installation disc to repair the windows. Make your system boot from CD.

Enter the BIOS, make the boot sequence to start with the CD-ROM/DVD then save changes and exit.

The system will restart and then insert the disc and after the installation files load. You should proceed by pressing ENTER > F8 > and wait when it shows the info: Searching for previous versions of installed Windows > only then you press 'R' key to repair the windows. All the best and good luck.

If your still having problems, consider reinstalling your os, or get a fresh version of XP PRO SP3 VistaVG Black + Blue Ultimate on a psp like, "Vuze,Limewire,Ares,or Bearshare". I prefer Vuze, formerly known as Azureus. You are better off with any good xp, as long as it's a sp3, don't settle for less. You could run vista, if your system is new, and has a lot of memory, but vista is a memory hog.........Good luck.
