My laptop screen goes black

Hello,

my laptop battery is not working from a couple of days, so i was using my laptop directly through plug. But from last the two days my screen goes black but it keeps on running in background. Now when i close the screen and opens it the light remains for few seconds. I am unable to figure out the problem related to that. Please help me regarding the problem and give me a solution.

sounds like monitor issue...... try with any other external monitor whether it is working.. is yes there is problem in monitor if no then probably you graphic card or RAM got problem..
Also try to reseat your RAM clean it and fix it in the slots..
