Hard drive not getting detected

Hello,

When I connect my WD my passport hard drive to my PC, it is not getting detected. I can see the LED blinking, but the drive is not spinning. Does this mean, my hard drive is dead?
I bought it just an year ago.. and it was working alright till tonight. I was watching a movie and all of a sudden, I started getting errors in VLC.
I have tried using a different cable and a computer as well but did not work.
Please advice..

IS this a USB drive, or a fixed disk. You say hard drive, but have described a USB. Let us know so that we can help!

Its a USB hard disk.
