Hello lomlom,
Please try these steps:
1. Open a new text document in the flash drive
2. Enter the following code in the text document:
attrib -s -h -r /s /d
cls
exit
3. Click File - Save as
4. Save it as "unhide.bat"
5. Close and delete the new text document
6. Double click on the "unhide" batch file
7. A black command screen will pop up and close
Hope this helps.

Let's try something different before giving it up, shall we? :)
Can you try downloading a software that writes zeros on storage drives and check if it will wipe out your USB?
You can also check the solutions given in this forum here: https://ccm.net/forum/affich-32020-write-protected-pendrive-can-not-format
Hope this will help you.

Unfortunately, I cannot advise you on any specific software for that operation, but one more thing came up into my mind. You could also try with ? Linux Live CD, just in case that it recognizes your external USB drive.
If that does not help, I think your drive would be very difficult to use in the future.
Best of luck.
