Hello,

I have an Optiplex 755 SFF with AMD Radon 6250. My desktop is hooked up to my LG tv via HDMI and has been for quite some time and worked flawlessly. My computer was running one night and I turned off the tv to go to bed. The next day I turned it back on and no sound would come out of the tv. I checked all the usual stuff on the desktop and saw no changes. I unplugged the HDMI from the desktop and into the PS3 and it worked no problem. I have reset the desktop a few times and can not understand why suddenly there is a no sound issue.

Please help...

Restart everything. Turn off the TV, turn off the PC. Make a connection, and boot the PC. Then turn on tv. Let us know the result. Remember, HDMI is not a standard, so they are not required to play well with each other!

I have said it once, I will say it again. IT!

Did exactly as you said twice. Absolutely nothing.

OK, try it in reverse. Once again, HDMI is not a standard.

Still nothing. This has been my setup for over a year and never had an issue. This pc has not been turned on in a while, so when I did, I believe several applications updated. I have a strong feeling that it had something to do with the MSI update that occured during the night in question. It was a live 6 update which says "Utility for BIOS/driver/utility update" Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

You could go into installed updates, and back it out, just to test. Can you find the video port in the hardware manager? Disable it, and re-enable it. Youcan also back the driver out from there, just to test.

I assume under device manager / sound, video and game controller / AMD High Definition Audio Device? I actually don't think that is it now that I am looking at it. I may need some assistance locating this port. I am not exactly the best with this stuff, but am trying to learn hot diagnose and solve my own pc issues.

you are there. Try to run the troubleshooter, and see if your windows picks up on anything! You are right, it might be hung update from previous.

I just did all that and it says it could not identify a problem with either the speaker or headphones. I decided to grab my headphones just to see if I could hear anything. Sure enough I could. I clicked on the speaker icon on the bottom right and say my LG tv and Headphones levels. The funny thing is that only the headphone levels were moving up and down when I was playing a movie. I unplugged the headphones to see if it would switch over to hdmi audio and nothing. So I am looking mixer while the movie is playing and see that nothing is happening underneath the tv icon.

Hang in there! Ok, launch the extended audio graphical interface. It has to be in the program listing. Check to see if there is an HDMI setting.

I had to google that term because I have never heard of it. I guess I do not have it, but I think I know what you ment. On the bottom right, I clicked on the speaker icon which showed my TV. I clicked on my tv called AMD HDMI output. It took me to properties which had the following tabs: General, Supported Formats, Levels, Enhancements, and Advanced.

General: Ability to rename the icon and change the icon itself, controller information which has AMD high definition audio device and a button that says properties. If I click on that it takes me to 3 tabs that say general, driver, and details. Device is working properly and it is up to date. On the bottom of the the general tab it says device usage and it is selected on "use this device (enable)

Supported Formats: Nothing but sample rates

Levels: shows the volume level of the AMD HDMI Output which is at 89 and allows me to move it from left to right. There is a speaker button that allows me to mute it. Then finally a balance button which shows left and right being 89.

Enhancements: Disable all enhancements is selected. On bottom left it says restore defaults and on right it says preview with a green arrow. I click it and nothing happens.

Advanced: Default formats section allows me to choose sample rates and bit depth such as 16 bit, 4800 hz (dvd Quality) which is what it was selected on. I also have a test button with a green arrow. WHat's funny is that when I press it, a warning comes up titled "Device In Use" with description "The Device is being used by another application. Please close any devices that are playing audio to this device and then try again." I find that very weird because I have nothing playing. Under test is a section called Exclusive mode and an unchecked box that says "allow application to take exclusive control of this device" Below that is a button that says restore defaults.

On the bottom of all those tabs is the OK, Cancel, and Apply.

I hope this is what you ment, or else I just wasted 20 minutes of my life LOL. Once again I appreciate your assistance in this matter and I am sure that a client will have this issue and you will look like a rock star!
