System error saying insert boot media in selected boot device

Hello,
My system is Dell vostro14 3000 series,it's not getting on.it's showing a blank screen saying insert boot media in selected boot device.I need my data's to be saved without loosing any document.So can u suggest me what am I supposed to do?

Looks to me like a damaged hard drive to which only a qualified technician can look in to.

I have to agree with you Ambucias. Unfortunately, no one knows when the drive is going to die. I guess this one have did. As a last resort I would suggest that Neil takes out the hard drive of the laptop bay to test it as an external drive through a SATA-USB cable.
If it's not working, then I think it's time for Christmas present. :)

Hello Neil,

Can you try the following things?
1. Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS menu
2. Go to Storage section
3. Check whether the HDD has been set as a first priority boot device
4. Save the changes and then restart

Hope this helps. Keep me posted what happened.

In the boot option hard drive is the first priority..but still it's showing same when am restarting
