Hi all,

Please will somebody who knows how this internet thing works clarify an issue I have with email timings? I really would appreciate it as the google searching brings up millions of answers completely unrelated.....as usual.

When you receive and email in your inbox in Yahoo, does the time show the time you received it or the time it was sent by the author?

I know you are all busy and this is a small matter but it is important and I would love to have the right information.

Thanks,

Richard

Greetings Richard,

The difference between the time sent and received is insignificant. As soon it is sent it goes into the server it will show the time received.

If a mail is sent to you, lets say from Canada to let say to London UK at 6AM it will show as received and sent at 11 AM.

CCM is on Eastern Standard Time (USA). It was posted at 5:26 AM, the time you clicked on submit or milliseconds later.

I hope this answers your question.

Regards

Thanks for that Ambucias. Is the time the Yahoo server time or the senders server time? I am asking this because I have an email received at 19.39 per my Yahoo inbox time and have a copy of the email sent by the author that shows their Outlook email time of 19.39 also. Therefore, the same time sent and received (as you state). Now the author is claiming that his Outlook system was 10 minutes slow. I believe that the simultaneous and same times on the sent and received email disproves this claim.

This may seem petty and immaterial but you could not imagine how important it is to me (and I will explain at some point if you are interested).

Thanks,
Richard

Hi Richard,

I can the author claim that his system was 10 minutes slow ? Have you asked? When sending an e-mail it is sent to the sender's smtp server which registers the time sent. The mail is then transferred to the receivers pop server.

Was the sender using Office Outlook or Outlook.com. Was he sending a large size file?

Yes I am interested in your explanations.

OK....I was accused of making three bank payments from this persons PC to my account. The system manager wrote that this persons PC was turned off at 20.06. The payments were made at 20.04, 20.06 and 20.10 per Barclays internet banking. The person explained that as her PC was 10 minutes slow her PC was actually on (as the 20.06 was really 20.16). I have an email sent by her from her PC (Outlook) to my email (Yahoo) and both the sent email and the received email have 19.53 as the time. I am wanting to prove that there was no 10 minute error on her PC and that this was a set up. It has made my life really difficult (as you can imagine).

Hi Richard,

This is wicked ! Anyhow, rest assured that a slow pc has no impact on e-mail time. Copy of all those mails can probably be found on the servers.

Good luck

P.S. When a pc shows the wrong time, it will continue to do so and the cmos battery must be changed. Did she get it changed ?
