Cannot open folders

When I try to open a folder I get a message saying "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs Control Panel."

It was all OK yesterday, it is the same on both my PCs.

Can anyone please advise me how to fix this?
