Hi Scarcity,
If you think that there are not so many files occupying the drive, you may lack free space because of the Windows system restore points. If the newly created ones are stored on this hard drive, you may start losing free capacity. What you need to do is to configure those restore points. You may be able to change their default location or to configure the size of the files. Please check the link below for some more details

Another thing you should try is cleaning all the temporary files. There are some useful tools that do good job. I leave you a link below with some suggestions:

It will redirect you to the Microsoft community. You may find some more details and suggestions there. In general, not managing those restore points may cause storage shortage. It is a common issue.
