Problems with VGA connection

Just bought a new monitor for my PC. It only has a VGA port, but when I hook it up there's no signal. My GPU doesn't have a VGA port, so I'm connecting it into my motherboard. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

when you connect the GPU card it disables the motherboard graphic port.
