Keys not working properly

When I try to type using certain keys, like the apostrophe or quotation marks, question mark, shift + 6, I get èÈ(apostrophes) Éé (question mark) ? (shift + 6) and I have to type differently than I'm used to and it slows down my writing. I have a deadline to write 5 chapters for a book and this makes it really difficult. Thoughts?

Verify your keyboard country is correct in the settings. What OS is this, and has it ever worked correctly?
