Western Digital My Book 500 Gb external hard

Hello,
Bought a external hard drive and transfer my music from itunes into it and now the pc that I have plug into says it is an unknown device and itunes can not locate any music on it and the pc does not regonize it as being plug in. What is the problem with this and how do I fix or find a way to reinstall it on the pc so the pc will recognize it and so that it will not be listed as an unknown device.
