What is Classic Shell? Windows Classic Shell is a free-to-use tool that allows users of Windows 7, 8 and 10 to inject the classic Windows XP Start Menu into their version of Microsoft's operating system. The software also offers a broad range of customizations and tweaks to improve the Windows user experience. This is our Classic Shell download page.

  • Give Windows a Classic Look: The original Windows XP Start Menu is not normally supported by Windows 7, 8 and 10. But Classic Shell lets you jump back to the look and feel of previous Windows versions. You can choose from three different Start Menu display styles.
  • Customize Windows Explorer: Classic Shell gives you access to a large number of usability improvements to the Windows Explorer menu. You can for instance add a fully customizable toolbar to Explorer with your shortcuts for your favorite Windows operations.

Classic Shell has been around since 2009 and it has no history of safety or security issues . You can download and install this application worry-free.

This software is compatible with Windows 7, 8 and 10. The installation of Classic Shell will only take up 7 MB of your storage space.

Classic Shell Alternative

Is Classic Shell still supported? The answer to this question is no. Classic Shell is no longer in active development since December 2017. However, the project has been picked up by a group of volunteer developers under the name of Open Shell Menu.
