RetroArch is a frontend for emulators, game engines and media players. It was developed by The Libretro Team and was initially released in May, 2010. The main goal of RetroArch is to allow users to enjoy a wide range of classic games on a variety of computers and consoles. On this RetroArch download page, we discuss some of the app’s key features, as well as some additional information.

Key features

Here are some of the main features of RetroArch:

  • Cross-platform: One of the best things about RetroArch is that it is cross-platform and runs on various consoles, such as PS3, PSP, PS Vita, Wii, and Wii U, among others. Moreover, there is also a RetroArch Android compatibility, as well as a RetroArch iOS compatibility. You can check the full list on the official website.

  • Joypad: Another good thing about RetroArch is that the most famous joypads are automatically configured - you just have to plug them in. Moreover, users are also free to manually assign actions to button combos, so they can have a gaming experience as they wish.

  • Shaders: In order to offer players the best gaming experience possible, RetroArch comes with shaders. Those are filters that improve the rendering of some old games, which can be perfect for your screen and immersion.

  • Response time: Thanks to the next-frame responsive time, RetroArch users will not be able to perceive any input latency from real hardware, FPGA/clone, or original hardware.

  • Interface: RetroArch comes with a polished interface where scanned games are organized by system. The menu is set top box-oriented and it features thumbnails, as well as various animated backgrounds.
