Acer Aspire no wifi or cable connection

I bought a used Acer Aspire one intel atom processor N270 and it will not connect to the internet even though its says i am connected. Ive run a diagnostics for windows xp and its telling me "windows cannot connect to the internet using HTTP HTTPS OR FTP. This is probably caused by firewall settings on this computer" what does this mean and how can i resolve it. Not tech savvy so need as much detail as possible thanks

Hi Jotracy,

Are you sure the router is working and connected to the internet? to test this try connecting another machine to the internet through this router.

Thanks for responding Brian. Yes router is working as other laptops are connected to it at present.

is your 'puter set up with a static IP Adress? It may be worth checking and changing it to dynamic
