There's no recovery to be done!
On your hard drive i think your friend changed the jumper settings to slave.. you will have to put it back to master!! then install the hard drive to your pc... Enter the bios settings to see if it detects the Hard drive!

thank u so much for responding and helping. my friend says to inform its a laptop and sata hard drive. and mentioned nothing was changed. any other advice? thx again
