Surround sound problems

Hello,

I just purchased a surround sound system and it works when I use it as a dvd player and also when I play music but when I am trying to watch tv I can not here any noise through the speakers. I don't understand why. I heard something about if the program that I am watching if it is not in surround sound format I wont be able to hear sound. Can some one help me.

Hye you should an audio/video hub to connect the two and then connect the output to the audio system..

So you will have to connect your tv to your dvd to let the dvd player manage your channels and you will have the tv surround sound!
