Hello,
Try this 1
1) Click on Start --> Run --> type ncpa.cpl and Press Enter. "Network connections" window will be opened.
2) Select your Wi-Fi --> Right-click on it --> Select "Status".
3) Click on "Wireless Properties" button --> In "Connections" tab --> Check the check box (select) "Connect automatically when this network is in range" .
4) Click on "Security" tab and fill the details --> Click on OK.
5) Now in Wi-Fi status dialog box, click on "Properties" button --> Click on "Configure" button --> Click on "Power Management" tab --> Now uncheck the checkbox (untick) "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" --> Click on OK.
Good Luck.

NETGEAR_Nighthawk X6 R8000 is my router.
However, this laptop travels extensively and the problem is present everywhere. Even here in trying to diagnose I have plugged in a usb adapter, TP-Link TL-WN22N, and turned off the internal card. Although the external adapter doesn't spontaneously disconnect, it often fails to automatically connect on boot, for what that's worth. Thank you for your interest.

Unfortunately it is not fixed. I have no idea what else to check or how to read event logs, but at 2:30am something occurred that knocked it offline. What now?
