Hello, Instagram doesn't unfollow people that you follow automatically.
A possible reason for this, is that upon following an account back, the people that you followed are taking you off their followers list.
The next time that you follow someone, try not logging out of your account, and then the next time you re-open the app, see if these people are still there.
