Why I cannot see the otherr person when I am Closed

Hello,
I have a dell inspiron laptop with a built in camera. My sister has just got a webcam & we decided to chat. She could see us but everytime I accepted her call on the webcam her screen was black + we could not hear each other please advice

If you are using Windows Live Messenger, 

Please use the 8.5 version

Tell your sister to install the same version

Then to complete the Audio and Video setup in the Option Menu
