Hello,

My Maxtor basic external hard drive has been working fine recently until I reinstalled windows vista on my computer. Now the computer recognises the hard drive (k), but won't allow access (Access denied). I have tried all manner of adjustments in the properties, device manager and disk management settings, without success. I do not believe it to be a problem with the drive, but a settingon the computer, however, i could be wrong (It has been known). Can anyone shed some light? Regards

This is a "ownership" problem. Vista thinks another computer owns this drive.

Check this link for a script that should fix this problem:

Good luck

I couldn't get that registry mod to work on my copy of Vista. So here is a more basic way to take ownership.
