Operating system not found while booting

Hello,
what should i do when operating system not found in the IBM laptop (t42) while booting and doesnt go forward before that. I was using windows xp as my operating system can anyone help me by providing a solution for that.

That problem is most often caused by a faulty hard disk. I would replace the hard disk and reinstall Windows.

mine is doing the same thing, alot of ppl said it is my hard disc, but is it possable to get all my data such as photos and videos?
