Desktop, taskbar & background won't show up

Hello,

hey people. gotta quick question about my laptop. its a dell, relatively new but not really. for about two weeks now my laptop would start up regularly but my background is entirely blank; taskbar, desktop & icons won't show and i can't get access to documents, internet or anything at all and i really don't know what i should do(and i'm hoping i don't have any kind of virus either)!! but if anyone can tell me what i should do to fix it i would really and truly appreciate it!
