PS3 w/ Cricket (or other) usb stick modem

Ive googled this and keep finding the same thing over and over but the simplist answer and question i have yet to find.
so my question is/...?
Can i just (plain and simple) plug the usb stick modem into my ps3 ??? will it work???
I do not have a laptop or desktop to use a ethernet cable .....

No it needs its software to run on a PC/Mac.
