One long bleep & two short and blank screen

Hello,
On switch on the computer gives one long bleep then two short ones; the screen remains blank but it sounds like it is starting up. Who know's what the Bleep code stands for - is it a hardware fault and which pice of hardwear. I hear some talk of six bleeps which I guess means something else !
