Sound is low on my computer

Hello,
i have windows xp i was having problems with my sound on the internet the sound would play on my media player but not on any web page, i fixed that thanks to a post on here but now my sound works but i can barely hear it even with the speakers and all the sound settings turned all the way up. does anyone know what i can do to fix this problem? thnks
