if you have Wireless networking on both computers you can connect them via an "ad hoc" network and share the files that way. Then you can drag and drop the files between computers. Likewise if you have an Ethernet (LAN) port on each computer you can use a "crossover" network cable to establish a network to transfer the files. If you have a router in your home you can use regular Lan cables. If you can do none of these you can copy the files to a CD and move them that way. If the old laptop doesn't work you can remove the hard drive - buy a USB 2.5 inch hard drive adapter to connect it to your new laptop.
