New hard drive problems

I have an HP a6813w with a 500gb hard drive. I bought a western digital caviar black 1 tb hard drive. When I plugged everything in and started my computer, it will not load passed the main hp screen. I try and access the boot or bois menu and am unable to. The screen just says loading menu. I called the western digital support and they told me the mother board and hard drive are incompatable. Is there a way to fix this?
