Internet connected but cannot open a web page

Plz help, on vista machine my modem status shows its connected but IE or Firefox cannot open a page, if i ping a website it responds with no packet loss, can receive\ send emails on outlook. No antivirus installed(had norton but expired then uninstalled thats the 2nd issue coz if am tring to install another antivirus i am asked to uninstall norton first but i already did), tried system restore to the last date i was able to browse, problem not solved. disabled windows firewall .

Hi,
This may be software problem better go into regedit and find keys contains "Norton" and delete all norton related keys and try another anti virus else reinstall Xp or vista and start fresh.

I guess there is URL resolving problem, you can use nslookup to try resolving URL. If it fails, you can configure following free DNS servers from Google on computer and after that test web browsing again.
