No Programme when opening sound

Hello,
I have an ESUS laptop and whenever i try to click the sound icon or open sound control manually it always comes up with an error box saying Application not found. can anyone help me out here its so frustrating and i got the laptop for Christmas '09 :(

Dear Sir,

It might be that there is no sound driver installed on it and hence I will advise you to have it installed.
