IPOD DOESNT WORK!!! HELP

Hello, my ipod a 30 GB ipod classic...it was working one day. but now all of a sudden it just died. i havent used it since (figuring i couldn fix it and it was pointless) but i was wondering if there are any ways of fixing this ipod when it comes up with www.apple.com/support/ipod and a big X and a circle around it.
it also makes ticking noises. like a clock. i comes up with the apple logo and looks like theres hope but then goes to this screen.
and DIY rescue idea's? reply's would be much appreciated....
