Ipod battery not charging

Hello,

My Ipod only works when plugged in to a charging facility (computer or speakers etc) it doesn't work just on it's own, which is really frustrating because thats the whole point of an Ipod, i got an Ipod classic, if this helps it did get water on it which started the problem.
Even when its had enough time to be fully charged it won't even turn on, please help.xxxxxxx
