Call of duty4 stopped working

Hello,
Please help i got the cod4 game first it worked then when tried again it would not work i then got advice which was just plug in headphones it should work it did on line but kept bouncing me out only allowing about 30 sec.
every time i chose single player it says put in cd althogh its in i am going mad it cost me 33pounds
