PLEASE HELP! 4 MY IPOD TOUCH, I NEED HELP!

Hello,

SOooo, when i put my ipod touch on the docking station it turns on fine. But when i take it off it autmatically shuts off. i try doing the reset thing but once again, my ipod touch wont even turn on. so i plugged it into my computer and it still wont turn on. my computer doesnt recognize it. for example, i plug it in, and it wont turn on or anytthing. the only way it works is on my docking station.. should i buy a new ipod or is it just the battery?
