External hard disk videos not working proper

Hello, 



 SINCE RECENTLY WHEN I PLAY CERTAIN VIDEOS IN REALPLAYER, DOWN LOADED DIRECTLY TO MY EXTERNAL HARD DISK, MY SYSTEM GETS HUNG UP. NOTHING WORKS AFTERWARDS CREATING HELL OF A PROBLEM. MY SYSTEM IS DELL LATITUDE - D530. try downloading to laptop hard drive then transfer it to hard drive and see the difference .,
