My computer gets turned off while booting

Hello,
i hav both windows xp as wel as vista but while formating from that cds during loading process my computer gets turned off so i cannot format my pc can u plz tell me what is its cause & how to overcome it?

Could be a bad hard drive or bad memory. At what point in the Windows install does it die?

It dies when windows is loading files like kerenel,VGA etc etc
