Hello,
I have a D505 with a brand new 250g hard drive.(2 months old) and when I turn it on now it's just a black screen and a cursor. Nothing else. I have Windows XP professional. Rapid pressing F8 or F10 does nothing but beep. Unable to open in safe mode or any other mode. Have removed and reinserted hard drive and have tried starting with battery only and ac only and still nothing.
I do NOT have the disks.
Please help. There is very important info I need from it.

If you don't get the Dell logo and can't get into the BIOS. Then you most likely have a hardware problem with the motherboard.
You should be able to read the hard drive using another computer and an external USB hard drive adapter.
Good Luck
