Dear Eamon,
There might be a possibility that the problem is sourcing from its motherboard, power supplying unit or graphic card. Please confirm the matter. Otherwise, it might also be coming from the fact that there are some corrupted materials on it and hence you should get it restored to factory settings through the below help.

Hi there,
In your situation ill advice to remove the battery of the laptop then press on holding the power button and wait for few seconds then put the battery back in the bay followed by the power adapter connected to it,then press on power button to start.
If this did not completely solve your issue then you need to boot from your windows installation cd and make a system repair for which the link below will be useful as a guide:
