Possible hardware virus on my Dell Laptop

I did a dell factory restore on my Dell Inspirson 1525 and am now trying to download my mcafee and am getting an error message: "IE cannot download DMSetup.exe from download.mcafee.com. IE was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later. " I get a similar messageswhen I attempted to download other programs. I am thinking I need to replace the hard drive, but was hoping I can do something else less drastic. Initially the problem was IE wouldn't open and then I couldn't connect and then my network window wouldn't open. Hence the factory restore..Please help any advice is welcome.

Dear Carol,

You will be happy to read that you do not have a virus, it is mostly due to IE and you will not need to replace your hd.

First try to download and run CCleaner:

https://ccm.net/downloads/security-and-maintenance/4555-ccleaner/

If you are prevented from downloading, clean you cache and all temp files.

but please to clean out the cookies that get on your IE too
