Internet stick w/router??

Hello,
i am trying to get internet in my apartment, but due to credit issues, cant subsribe to any providers in my area without a deposit.. so i was thinking of getting an internet stick, and plugging it into a router. that would provide internet to my ipad, dell notebook, and ps3.. Is this even possible?? i am a computer/internet neophyte- so any help would be really appreciated! seriously!
